Halibut fishing in March has been excellent with our limits plus on most charters. Weather has been an issue on occasion, but even in less than ideal weather, we have still managed to do well. The size of the halibut have been average for this time of the year, the average catch weighing in at approximately 22 lbs. Our largest halibut this past week was in the mid 30 lb range.
Salmon fishing continues to be strong when you get the right tide and of course also have the right combination of Gibbs Delta Tackle on you line. Yesterday I fished Whirl Bay, and the hot combination was the silver Coho Killer with the Lemon /Lime flasher, fishing just off the bottom in 120 feet. I just uploaded a photo of a 19 lb Hatchery Chinook that we caught fishing this combination yesterday.
Remember that as of April 01st we are now on the new size limits for Halibut as follows: That recreational halibut limits for 2014/15 be one fish per day, two in possession, with an annual bag limit of six, and maximum size limits of 133 cm for the larger fish in possession, and 90 cm for the smaller one.
The skipper says, good luck and stay safe out there.
